In the year 2004 Puntland State University Galkayo campus began with two facilities: Faculty of Health Science and Faculty of Engineering. The admission of the students is on severe selection bases and only students licensed after 2000 from recognized secondary school are admitted and they undergo the entrance examination to attend the pre-university semester on basic sciences, and languages. |

The majority of students admitted to these Institutes and Faculties are from Puntland Schools: Omar Samatar and Gamol in Galkayo and Garowe and organize one year refreshment courses for students licensed from other secondary schools of south Somalia |
